Be civil and kind

Please contribute to making this a happy and safe space by keeping discussions civil. This means avoiding ad hominem comments, rudeness, incivility, trolling, stirring the pot, etc. Debate the point and not the person. Please report suspected content stealing / inappropriate AI use to the mods rather than making accusations in the comments.

Stay on topic (No fan-fiction)

This subreddit's intent is to discuss Jane Austen and her works. Posts focused on politics, fan-fiction or works by other authors will be removed. We instead refer you to r/JaneAustenFF, r/PeriodDramas, r/literature, or r/classicliterature to discuss those topics.

Limit self-promotion

Linking or directing users to your own high-quality, Austen-related content beyond reddit is permissible, but please limit self-promotion to once a month. Low-quality posts promoting merchandise such as t-shirts will be treated as spam and removed. Stealing other's content (such as posts and memes) also violates this rule. Self-promotion posts from users that have no previous community engagement are also subject to removal.

No school work / homework requests

This isn’t the place to come to for help with writing that essay on a Jane Austen book you never read. Please don’t ask users to do your homework for you. If you think you may be an exception, please message the mods before posting.

No spam, karma-farming, generative AI images/videos etc

Posts with stolen / copied content or that are perceived as spam (including karma-farming) will be removed and users will be banned. Please do not post images, videos, or sound files created by generative AI.

Media posts by users with no other community engagement may be removed and users may be banned.

No snobbery

Please refrain from stating your opinion as fact. Adaptation critique should be given using a personal perspective (“I didn't care for this,”— NOT “this is objectively terrible”). No adaptation is a perfect recreation, nor do we expect it to be. Similarly, please avoid proclaiming your favorite as "the best".

While we encourage asking clarifying questions, please do not give unsolicited grammar or spelling corrections. If a fellow Austenite’s meaning is clear, engage with it or keep scrolling.
