Authors can ONLY self-promote in our monthly thread (see sticky thread)
Every month, we post a sticky thread titled "Authors - Pitch your Fantasy Book to readers :)" with a set format for you to pitch your fantasy book to readers.
We know it is a challenge for authors, and we want to help, just don't mention your book outside of these posts.
Have fun and celebrate fantasy books!
Books are magic and take us to incredibly places. Let's celebrate them and the authors who write them :)
Be an adult and discuss with respect.
You are an adult; if some anonymous person starts calling you names, you have to be an adult and not respond with the same juvenile attacks. You step away and don't get involved because it is the kind of behavior that destroys community and creates a civilization nobody wants to be part of. That is also why there is a report button to alert mods to someone who is a toddler and can't regulate their emotional response.
Be kind (and no cursing)
We want to create a healthy and kind community. Be kind to your fellow humans. We also don't allow cursing as we think it hurts the quality of discussion.
Only take part in a thread if you have something positive to add.
If a thread is asking for an opinion on a book, don't go into the thread and tell the Op to read it. Please don't post if you don't have anything to say. We'll let you know first, but we will eventually ban you if you enter a thread to pick a fight with the poster rather than contribute to the discourse. Just don't post if you don't have something to add to the conversation. We want this to be a kind place where people feel comfortable posting knowing they will not get roasted.
Don't downvote because you don't love a book.
We do ban users who downvote books they don't like. We want this to be a place you celebrate the books you love. Feel free to vote and share the books you love, but don't throw hate everywhere.
No Politics Outside the Stories Being Discussed
No political comments outside the fantasy story being discussed allowed. Any political commentary needs to stay within the context of the world that is the topic of conversation. Real world political soapboxes are not the point here. It's creating an atmosphere that doesn't belong.
Some conversations can only be face-to-face (aka not online).
We also have a global problem: social media and online communities are not the same as face-to-face conversations; they lack nuance and are prone to extreme takes because people behave differently online than in person. We do not allow posts within our subreddit that are meant to be face-to-face conversations. We focus on discussions about fantasy books that can be held in an online space.
We don't allow AI book cover witch hunts.
If you think a cover is AI, do not post about it. We don't want silly witch hunts. Recently, we had about 50 users pile on a book review because they thought the author was AI. It had a verified human artist as its creator. We will ban users if they can't follow this rule.
If you have proof that a book/author is using AI in the cover or in the writing message, the mods will ban them. But it has to be proof, as we don't want a mob mentality.
We don't allow books written by AI or book covers by AI.
We ban the book/author, but you have to message the mods with proof. We don't allow AI witch hunts, as we have seen attacks on authors and illustrators again and again with AI claims (when they are not). Writing and art are for humans, not AI.
