This community is for professional discussion among healthcare providers. Medical questions should be directed towards your own healthcare provider, or check out r/AskDocs or r/medical_advice. Non-healthcare providers may post if relevant to the field of family medicine and if comments/post excludes personal health narratives and detailed possibly identifying information. No personal health narratives. No patient photos.

Please direct questions about med school and residency application processes to r/premed or r/medicalschool. Questions about "what are my chances", residency interviews, rotations or the like are better suited to these other subs, which are much more active, or your post may be removed.

If you have relevant questions for current FM docs you feel is relevant for this sub (family medicine is a great field, and we'd love to share it with you!) Keep to the designated careers sticky.

Vaccine discussions

Vaccine conspiracy theory posts and comments are not welcome. Strictly medical discussion of vaccines allowed. Both the American Academy of Pediatrics and American Academy of Family Physicians encourage routine immunization schedules be followed. If you disagree with these vaccination guidelines, write to your professional society for their consideration. If you have had an adverse event related to a vaccine, see: https://vaers.hhs.gov/ for further reading.

Misinformation

Don't do it. As per the Reddit TOS an expectation of safety is required. Intentionally posting medical misinformation (or any gross misinformation that causes harm ie: herbs cure cancer) will be removed. Users who repeatedly break this rule will be banned. What is NOT "misinformation": a topic you disagree with, a controversial statement, a technically inaccurate/wrong but respectful statement that does not otherwise harm general public.

Layperson Policy

Laypeople are not 100% banned from participating, but we ask to please prioritize listening & observing. Most of us work directly with patients day in/day out, and believe us when we understand we have a broken healthcare system, and bad doctors/PAs/NPs do exist. It is also true that emotionally difficult, disrespectful patients exist. This is one of the few spaces as physicians and providers have to commiserate and share tips for handling these situations. Please mostly listen & observe.
