Remain professional
Remember that there is another person on the other side of the screen. Don't insult or personally attack people, and bear in mind how comments might be perceived by an outside observer.
Do not impersonate other individuals or organisations or claim falsely to represent them. Do not post unlabelled NSFW content.
No personal information / patient information
Do not post or request any personal information related to others. This includes any information related to patients, doctors, or other staff. Be aware that the details of a case might make you identifiable even if you remove personal information.
Screenshots of other social media must have usernames, names etc redacted Screenshots of other social media must have usernames, names etc redacted as per Reddit's Content Policy. Public/elected figures and organisations are allowed to be identified.
No AI generated content or link shorteners
AI generated content (such as ChatGPT, Midjourney etc.) is not permitted due to the difficulty in validating statements/accuracy and the lack of effort required to create such content.
Do not use URL shorteners, as these allow content to be hidden until clicked.
No low effort posts
Posting should be thoughtful and of high quality, adding to discussions rather than repeating established points. We do not welcome spamming of the same content in multiple threads or comments. If your query can be answered trivially with the use of a search engine or Reddit Search, it should be.
Avoid toxic engagement
Obviously offensive or bigoted contributions will be removed in line with the best judgement of the mod team. Repeated or consistent attempts to agitate on a personal agenda or vendetta without wider contribution to the community are unwelcome. Single issue posters will not be tolerated unless previously mod approved as being positive for the community.
Refrain from excessive negativity when not presented in a constructive manner.
No posts about coming to or leaving the UK
We welcome posts from IMG colleagues who work within the UK healthcare system, but the subreddit is not suited for posts asking about moving to the UK (eg: PLAB/OLETS/arranging observerships/finding NHS work). On the same basis posts about the process or merits of emigrating from the UK to other nations is not generally permitted.
There is an exception for posts which report or reflect on the experience of practice in other nations as contrasted with the UK, or anecdotal accounts of a personal
No medical queries / ask a doctor
This is not a forum for patients to seek medical advice, and members of the community should not offer advice in response. This includes general queries about processes relating to care provision. Additionally we are not the venue for "ask a doctor" type queries, even if non-medical in nature.
Memes at weekends
Meme posts and image macros are not normally permitted except between 5pm Friday and 8am Monday (UK time), on bank holidays and on any strike day. Memes are of course allowed in comments when suitable.
No advertising / promotion / surveys and petitions
We do not routinely allow advertising of any kind, and the advertising of medical devices and products is expressly forbidden. We may permit advertising of a blog, website etc. for users who engage broadly in the community on a case-by-case basis. Surveys are only permitted if they originate from an established professional or trade body and must be approved by the mod team in advance.
Petitions may be permitted if they are placed in thread comments as part of an organic conversation in which
No repeat threads/Megathreads
Please avoid posting on topics which have recent or active threads within the subreddit. Occasionally we may create a pinned Megathread for a popular topic where comments and posts should be directed.
Filtered and restricted content
We do not normally permit content from sensationalist and low-quality sources. Accordingly, we will remove content from: The Daily Mail, The Sun, GB News, TalkTV or equivalent outlets.
BMA/HCSA/Unite interviews from those sources may be posted, but only as screenshots or archive links, in order to avoid driving traffic to the source.
No pre-med/medical school queries
We are primarily a space for UK doctors to discuss among themselves. While questions relating to the Foundation programme are permitted, we are not the appropriate venue for questions about medical school, applying to medicine or electives, or advice for medical students about career planning beyond Foundation training. There are a number of alternative subreddits which cater to those questions.
AMAs require verification
If you want to host an AMA please send us a modmail as we need to verify your identity beforehand
