r/emailprivacy Subreddit Rules
Stay on topic
This subreddit is focused on email privacy, security, and anonymity. Posts should clearly relate to those topics, such as secure email providers, encryption, tracking, aliases, or privacy-focused setups. General tech support or basic email usage questions are allowed to an extent and will be revised case by case.
No spam / unsolicited advertising
Spam and unsolicited promotion are not allowed. This includes referral links, affiliate links, and posting primarily to advertise a service or product. If you are connected to something you’re discussing, you must be transparent about it and participate in good faith rather than treating the subreddit as a marketing channel.
We encourage you to share useful tools, however it must not be for personal benefit.
No requests for invites to private services
Requests for invites to private or beta services, as well as buying, selling, or trading accounts, are not allowed. These posts tend to clutter the subreddit without contributing meaningful discussion.
Be Respectful / No Hate speech
Respectful discussion is expected. Disagreement is fine, but it needs to stay focused on ideas, not other users. Personal attacks, harassment, or deliberately antagonistic behavior are not allowed. This includes any form of hate or discrimination, such as racism, sexism, homophobia, or targeting people based on religion, nationality, or identity.
Dismissing or talking down to others, especially beginners, also falls under this.
Effort & Post Quality
Posts are expected to show some effort. If you’re asking for help, include enough context for others to give useful answers for what you’re trying to achieve, what you’ve tried, and any relevant details. Very short, vague, or commonly repeated questions may be removed to keep the discussion useful for everyone.
Safety & Legality
Content that promotes or enables illegal or malicious activity such as phishing, scams, or harassment is not allowed. Discussions about threats, risks, and defensive practices are welcome, but they should stay focused on understanding and prevention.
Post Accuracy
Try to keep information accurate and grounded. Privacy and security topics can be nuanced, so avoid making exaggerated or misleading claims. If you’re presenting strong opinions or advice, be prepared to explain your reasoning so others can learn from it.
Moderators Have the final say
Moderators may remove content that is off-topic, overly repetitive, or does not contribute to meaningful discussion, even if it doesn’t break a specific rule. The aim is to maintain a high-quality, focused community.
