r/chromeos Subreddit Rules

2

Keep it constructive

No rude, offensive or hateful posts or comments. Negative opinions are welcome and encouraged but they should be constructive (e.g., no pointless rants).

Good negative post: "The latest update has caused me loads of issues, is anyone able to help? I'm shocked this passed through testing!"

Bad negative post: "Google should be ashamed for making such a bad OS and they're absolutely incompetent. It sucks so bad and updates are so bad and everything is so bad, just use Linux. I use arch btw"

3

Stay on-topic

Posts should be directly related to the ChromeOS ecosystem. This includes, but is not limited to, Chromebooks, Chromeboxes, ChromeOS tablets, accessories, etc.

Posts that mention other topics are allowed, but the focus of the post must be relevant to the community. We do not allow posts asking for help installing another OS or custom firmware on your device. Please see https://forum.chrultrabook.com.

Posts and comments that do not add to the conversation will be removed.

4

Spam and misleading links

Spam and misleading links, such as "Top 10 Chrome Extensions" blogs, are not allowed and will be removed. This includes misleading web pages, spam sites and clickbait.

Link shorteners are discouraged and may be caught in the spam filter.

In addition, links to content should not be editorialized. If posting an article, video, etc., use the original title of the linked content as your post title and link directly to the original content.

Violation reason: This is spam.
5

Violating school/organization rules

Posts requesting or giving information about circumventing organization locks by schools, employers, family controls etc. will be removed.

If you have purchased a managed device and/or graduated from a school who gave you the device, you will need to contact the organization it is enrolled with to have the device deprovisioned.

Violation reason: Breaking school/organization rules
6

Effort must be made when requesting and providing help

Effort must be made in the post title and body. If requesting help, the post must be clear and easy to understand, otherwise nobody can be expected to help.

Making it easier to understand helps other users in their effort to help you.

Likewise, we expect that all attempts at responding to troubleshooting posts are made in good faith. We do not allow the usage of AI-generated content for support or guides.

7

No piracy

Piracy is not allowed. Directly linking to copyrighted material, such as paid Android apks, games, or movies, will be considered piracy and will be removed as such.

8

Giveaways and personal buying/selling posts require moderator approval

We don't allow giveaways, personal buying/selling posts, hardware swaps, surveys, etc. unless authorized by a mod. Send a modmail for more info (the standard answer is no).

Linking sales is allowed as long as it's from a reputable retailer. This does not include eBay sellers with good reviews, since that still counts as a "personal buying/selling" post.

Asking for discount codes is not permitted, otherwise known as "code-begging".

9

Self-promotion

Self-promotion, such as a developer or content creator wanting to promote their work, is only allowed when approved by a moderator. Send us a modmail for more info.

External social media links will be auto-removed.

Violation reason: This is self-promotion
10

ChromeOS Flex posts must be made in r/ChromeOSFlex

Fundamental differences at the heart of the two operating systems mean that troubleshooting steps are very different. In an effort to minimise confusion, r/ChromeOSFlex is the specialised home on Reddit for ChromeOS Flex.

Posts made here will be removed and redirected.

Violation reason: ChromeOS Flex posts must be made in r/ChromeOSFlex (Showcase posts allowed)
11

No NSFW content

This is a subreddit for everyone! NSFW content is not allowed, which includes excessive swearing, links to NSFW sites, and screenshots that have visible tabs/bookmarks to NSFW sites.

12

No AI Generated Posts or Comments

People come to Reddit expecting to talk to people, we want to try to keep it that way. AI generated posts and comments are not permitted on r/ChromeOS.

Discussion of AI features in ChromeOS is permitted.

13

Mods have final say

Moderators reserve the right to mute and ban anyone they see fit, and remove any post or comment at their own discretion.

If you wish to appeal a decision, then contact us via modmail. DM requests will be ignored or redirected.
