Please be supportive and kind.
We have a zero tolerance policy for assholes and bullying. Don't be one.
Please do not solicit/offer diagnoses.
This includes questions in the vein of "what is this?" "what type of hair loss is this?" "what does this look like?" "could I have...?" "is my diagnosis wrong?" etc. Various hair loss disorders can mimic each other in patterns of thinning. We are not qualified or equipped to differentiate them based on photos and limited information. Diagnosis requires examination of the scalp, assessment of medical history, and possibly a biopsy. Posts to this effect will be removed.
Do not offer medical advice to other users.
A good dermatologist specialising in hair and scalp disorders would not give a diagnosis and instructions for a treatment plan without a proper examination and evaluation of medical history.
Where another user of the subreddit has not even started the process of getting a concrete diagnosis, it is not appropriate to give medical advice. Comments to this effect will be removed. Unsupported theories or advice may also be removed.
Men may post and comment here but posts unrelated to women's hair loss will be removed.
Please do not derail conversations and keep them pertinent to hair loss affecting women only. This is not a space for men to dispense opinions or advice on female hair loss. Egregious violations of this rule will get you banned permanently. Do not be obtuse if you break the rule.
Transphobia is not tolerated in this sub.
This is a safe space for all women (including trans), transmen, and nonbinary people. Transphobia is not tolerated and will result in a permanent ban.
No soliciting to community members.
This includes selling or advertising products or services, promoting your own social media channels, or recruiting for any kind of research. Disregarding this rule will result in a permanent ban.
No gatekeeping.
Gatekeeping anyone's hair loss for any reason at all will result in a warning. Multiple offenses will get you banned. Please be supportive of others no matter how you feel about their hair loss.
Do not post product links.
If something worked for you please share it but be sure to include your personal experience with it rather than a link with no context.
Please set a topic flare for your post.
Please set a user flare.
User flares are a quick and easy way to share your hair loss condition, or to indicate if you haven't received a diagnosis yet. This will help others to give you better advice and support!
Please only post photos of yourself or others WITH their permission
Do not post photos of celebrities or influencers, and if you are posting on behalf of someone else, please seek their permission first.
Information must be evidence-based.
Misinformation is incorrect or misleading information. We advocate for an evidence-based approach to healthcare grounded in scientific literature and clinical data. Anecdotal evidence is evidence based only on personal observation, collected in a casual or non-systematic manner, and therefore is not a sufficient equivalent. We do not accept the use of generative AI/ChatGPT as a source of information.
Wilfully misinformed comments and posts are subject to removal, and may result in a ban.
