Don't be a jerk

We poke fun at made up names in here. We are NOT here to be a jerk about anything else. If a member asks to be roasted, feel free to roast THE NAME and that's it.

Disagreements will happen and we understand arguments are completely normal in a sub like this. However, name-calling will not be tolerated and we will ban you if we catch you bullying members in this sub. This includes being racist, homophobic, transphobic, misogynistic, ableist, antisemitic, xenophobic, etc.

Crop out all identifying information

Always crop out photos, try to crop last names, addresses, phone numbers, usernames, Humans as a whole, and anything else that may identify someone. We only want to see the first name. If it can't be cropped, then just type the name out.

Do not post class lists, employment information, school information, and any other information that could be a potential risk. This includes anything from a person's medical record and those of their children's.

Please no links.

Google all names before posting

Remember to Google every name before posting to this sub. Certain names may look strange to you, but remember that it could be a common name in another country.

That being said, there's nothing wrong with ASKING if a name is a tragedeigh. But make sure its not obviously cultural or an obvious accepted alternate spelling. For example: "Is Saoirse a Tragedeigh?" No.. If its "Would it be a tragedeigh if I named my kid Bughnte Pahighn" yes it is.

Be mindful of duplicate posts

Before posting a name, it is encouraged to check whether your post is a common submission in the sub.

Please read our list of banned names for a comprehensive list on every name that is banned from this subreddit. This includes urban legends such as La-a, Orangello/Lemonjello, Sssst, and Jkmno.

Consider the subject matter before posting

Do not post anything related to crime or sick, missing or injured people. It's important that you consider the source of the name before posting. It may be tempting to tell us all about the names you see in your hospital job, but we do not want any of those names here. That being said, if you submit anything that says "NICU", that is an automatic ban.

Anything related to sex work or NSFW content will also be removed. This includes telling someone their name sounds like a 'stripper' name.

Let members ask questions

You can ask questions here. If you would like to discuss a name, we recommend using the "is it a tragedeigh?" or "general discussion" flair. Not every member is bashing a name -- Some are simply asking about a name they found.

If the name in question is cultural, you can let OP know without being a jerk. Saying stuff like "Google is free" is rude and not helpful at all.

Same goes for comments like "if you have to ask...it's a tragedeigh". Asking doesn't automatically make a name a tragedeigh.

Respect mod decisions

If we delete your post or comment, don't slide in our DM's and start harassing us. Don't create another post about how the "mods are mean". Don't make passive aggressive comments to other members about how your posts "always get deleted". Just move on. If you aren't banned yet, you likely didn't do anything bad. There are a lot of reasons we delete posts. You will be banned from this sub if you continue to disrespect our mods.

No Irrelevant content

Pets, video game characters, and inanimate objects names are not tragedeighs. They are the best target for these names and thats when it becomes fun and goofy.

This is not a baby naming group.

If you want to discuss a name that is NOT a tragedeigh (Tragedeigh names are names that are misspelled horribly into oblivion) take it to a different sub.

All posts need to be relevant to this subs subject. Everything else will be removed.
