r/snappingturtles
Everything about snapping turtles as pets/roommates. Softshell turtles and mud/musk turtles are welcome, too. If you hail from a different part of the world and have native turtles that fill the same role as these turtles, feel free to introduce us to them on Saturdays. This sub does not advise or advocate the taking of any turtles from the wild, other than by licensed wildlife/rehabilitation officials. Feel free to help a turtle cross the street. But leave it at that.

r/snappingturtles Subreddit Rules
Rule 1: This sub is mainly dedicated to keeping snapping turtles as pets, but...
1: Any posts about snapping turtles, mud, musk, and soft shell turtles as pets, in the wild, or as food are permitted. If it's about eating them, keep it clean, clinical, and polite. No rage bait. No animal cruelty. Herpers are a big part of the hobby, and often how we get interested in keeping reptiles as pets in general. A lot of conservationists are also hunters, and they can bring a different perspective. Remember that Teddy Roosevelt was a hunter and the reason we have national parks.
Rule 2: This universe is chaos. Be kind.
Keep it civil. No bullying, harassing, or threatening. No racism, sexism, homophobia, or other hate speech. I really don't feel like I should have to say this, but look at the comment sections all over reddit. The first 3 will get you a warning and if it continues, a ban. The second 3 will just get you banned outright.
Rule 3: Keep it legal.
We all love snapping turtles or we wouldn't be here. Unfortunately, they're illegal to own in some states and countries. It's usually because they're invasive and that's a good reason. If you live in one of those places, do not ask for help getting one. This is your only warning. If you ask anyone to help you break the law on this sub, you will be banned.
Rule 4: No spam.
No unsolicited sales pitches. If you want to sell something you make, dm us and we'll make a ruling. If someone asks in the comments, you're free to drop a link. Otherwise, no. If you post it without asking, it's gone. Do it again, and so are you.
Rule 5 No politics/religion/Peta trolls.
No religion or politics. There will be no warnings beyond this one. First offense is removal of the comment or post. Second is removal of the commenter or poster. No exceptions. There're subs for that and this ain't them. Peta trolls will absolutely not be tolerated. First offense is subject to a permanent ban.
No AI
If we suspect AI, you will get permanently banned.
