Be civil and respectful
Self-explanatory. Be civil when discussing music with others; don't resort to insults or harassment. Any form of hate speech is strictly prohibited.
If you see any abuse of this type, please do not hesitate to use the report function.
Add appropriate context to titles and posts
When creating a new post that is not a link to a song, be descriptive in the post title and body text so that the topic is as clear as possible.
If the subject of your post is unclear, you may be asked to repost it or add detail.
Stay on topic
We do not heavily gatekeep genres here, but please keep posts relevant to prog rock/metal and related genres (e.g. jazz fusion, math rock, etc.) here.
While political discussion is permitted when related to music (e.g. discussions of lyrics or albums) or a musician, please avoid more general, off-topic discussion.
Banned content - please read before posting
As a general rule, don't post low-effort content or spam. Please also avoid posting the following:
- Memes/shitposts (go to r/ProgRockCirclejerk instead)
- Posts asking "is band/artist/song prog?" (and related debates). We have had to ban these posts due to them repeatedly sparking arguments in the comments.
- AI-generated content (exceptions for official album covers)
- Tiermaker/Topster charts
- Reaction videos
- Screenshots of Spotify Wrapped, Apple Music Replay, Airbuds, etc.
Please include "Artist Name - Song Title" in the title of links to songs.
When posting song covers, please indicate either the name of the original artist or the performing artist/band in your title
Afterwards, feel free to add whatever else you want.
No full album or playlist links (except if news)
It is preferred to share links to individual songs, as they encourage discussion and allow for easier listening. Posts that are just links to these (with minimal/no discussion) may be removed at moderator's discretion.
We allow exceptions for announcements of new albums containing links to an official audio source (e.g. Bandcamp) and discussion posts containing links.
No song submissions that have already been posted within the past 5 months (same artist)
To keep discussion fresh, please refrain from reposting links to songs that've already been posted within the last 5 months (150 days). Exceptions for covers and remixes.
Use the search function to check if a specific song has been recently posted.
No pirated torrents/download links
Please don't directly circulate these sorts of links for safety/copyright reasons.
Self-promotion guidelines
When promoting your own music, articles, social media profiles, etc. please follow the following guidelines:
- You can self-promote once every 7 days
- Please disclose your involvement with what you're promoting
- Don't excessively repost the same links etc.
No second-hand or fraudulent merchandise sales (e.g. tickets, shirts, vinyl/CDs)
Due to difficulty moderating buying/selling threads (as they are often abused in scams), those types of posts aren’t allowed here.
This does not apply to links to official merchandise vendors (e.g. Burning Shed).
No AI-generated content submissions
These types of posts are low-effort, misleading, and take away from the efforts of real artists. This means no images, videos, audio, etc. generated using artificial intelligence programs.
While we do allow some exceptions for discussion related to official album covers (as these are hard to blacklist efficiently), we reserve the right to remove posts if egregious AI usage is detected.
