r/milkyway Subreddit Rules
Unscientific, unproven or controversial content is allowed but must be flaired appropriately.
If the 'Discussion/Unproven' flair is not used on a post considered by the mods to fall into this category the OP may receive a warning, have their post removed or be banned from this sub.
[This is rule number one because we want this community to have open, honest discussions about potentially controvertial topics, but we don't want the whole sub to get too toxic.]
Posts should be relevant to the sub; relating to space, the Milky Way or similar topics.
This should go without saying, this isn't the place for cute cat pictures or SpongeBob memes, unless you can relate them to the Milky Way somehow. If you can, well done. As long as you use the 'Entertainment' flair you're welcome here.
Flairs should be used appropriately. See the full description for more details.
The 'Personal' flair can be used for photos and videos of yourself, personal stories or similar.
The 'Meta' flair is for community feedback.
The 'Education' and 'Entertainment' flairs can be a grey area. Use your best judgement to decide where to put a funny lecture or informative meme.
The 'Discussion/Unproven' flair is for controvertial content as per rule #1, but can also be used for general space related questions you'd like an answer to.
All links off-site must be up-to-date and working correctly. Spam links will be removed.
If you come across a broken link please report it to the mods and we'll do our best to find the correct link and put it in a comment below the offending post. Alternatively, please feel free to help us out and comment yourself if you already know the page it should be linking to.
If the community is unable to find an alternative to a broken link, the mods will flag the post with a 'Link-rot/Outdated' flair.
Please also report spam links as soon as possible so they can be removed.
Memes are allowed but must not be low-effort. They should provide something substantial.
There's nothing wrong with memes. They are a great way to conveying information in an easily digestable way. Just keep in mind that they will almost always need an 'Entertainment' flair and should provide users with some space related information.
