Keep It KGP‑Centric

Posts and comments must focus directly on IIT Kharagpur: academics (courses, syllabi, grades), campus events, student clubs, placements, research projects, hostels, festivals, or student life. General engineering queries, other universities’ news, or unrelated topics distract from our community’s mission and will be removed.

No Unapproved Promotions

Any advertisement or solicitation for products, commercial services, third‑party events, personal blogs, YouTube channels, paid workshops, or recruitment drives requires explicit moderator approval. Unsolicited self‑promotion adds noise, undermines genuine discussion, and harms community trust.

No Reposts or Context‑Free Crossposts

Before posting, search r/IITKGP for similar content. Duplicate threads (e.g., repeated “Wi‑Fi down?”) clutter the feed. Likewise, content copied from other subreddits must be rewritten to include KGP‑specific context—otherwise it will be removed or merged.

No Low‑Effort Posts

One‑word replies, single‑image memes/GIFs without IITKGP context, “meme dump” threads, or “shitposts” that contribute no discussion value are not allowed. Posts should foster meaningful conversation, share insights, or solve real problems for KGP students.

Keep It Civil

Attacks, insults, name‑calling, threats, or hate speech (targeting any protected group) are banned. Excessive profanity that derails conversation—even in jest—is not permitted. Treat peers, faculty, and alumni with basic respect: disagree without degrading.

Protect Privacy

Never share personal data—roll numbers, phone numbers, home addresses, email IDs, or staff private details—without consent. Requests for or disclosures of anyone’s private information violate Reddit’s policy and may lead to immediate removal and bans.

This does not apply to generally known personalities, ie, professors and Student Council members.

No Academic Dishonesty or Illegal Content

Requests for or distribution of exam/assignment solutions, leaked question papers, cheat guides, software cracks, pirated textbooks, or hacking tutorials is strictly forbidden. Upholding academic integrity and legality is paramount for our proud alma mater.

No NSFW & Graphic Content

Explicit sexual content, nudity, or graphic violence—especially involving campus individuals—has no place here. Mark other kinds of sensitive content with NSFW Tag.

No Vote Manipulation or Brigading

Do not solicit mass up‑votes/down‑votes, organize raids, or coordinate campaigns against users or posts in this or other subreddits. Such behavior is unfair, skews community feedback, and can result in bans.

No Misinformation or Rumors

Rumors about administration decisions, placement statistics, policy changes, or controversies must be confirmed via credible sources (official IITKGP channels, verified news). Speculation and hearsay create confusion—wait for an announcement before posting.

No Clickbait or Sensational Titles

Your title should accurately and concisely reflect the post’s content. Misleading, sensational, or clickbait headlines designed solely to attract attention will be removed. Clear titles help everyone find and engage with relevant discussions.
