Specific to Your Physical Fitness
The purpose of r/Fitness40plus is to give and receive help with achieving physical fitness and exercise goals. This means that the scope of discussion on r/Fitness40plus is much narrower than many posters who come here believe it to be. Posts must be directly related to a physical fitness question, problem, or goal - not tangentially. Just because something relates to fitness or exercise does not mean it is appropriate for r/Fitness40plus.
No Debbie Downers
Rule against comments that are dismissive or overly negative about others’ accomplishments, goals, or methods. This is a supportive community. If your only response from seeing a heavy deadlift is fear and criticism, this might not be the best place for you. We do not question your good intentions, and we do appreciate your concern, but please remember the rules before commenting.
Any progress photos must be shared through a comment to your main post.
We require that any progress photos, including gallery links, be added as a comment to your main post. Your main post should include more than just your results (e.g., photos, stats, or milestones). Please share how you got there, for example a brief summary of your diet, training, and any other key strategies you followed during your journey. This helps others learn from your experience and apply it to their own goals.
Do not provide or request for medical advice or diagnoses.
⚠️ Important: This subreddit is not a substitute for professional medical advice.
You are welcome to ask others if they’ve dealt with a similar condition, what helped, and how they navigated it. However, please do not rely on any responses here as a diagnosis or treatment plan. If you’re experiencing a medical issue, seek out a qualified healthcare provider.
Please refrain from requesting or replying with medical advice. These posts will be moderated and removed.
Please refrain from making assumption about others' hormone levels.
As a continuation of Rule #5, please avoid making assumptions about others’ hormone levels and suggesting that someone needs hormone therapy.
Not acceptable: “You are low-T.” Acceptable: “You may want to ask your doctor to check your hormone levels.”
We still strongly encourage sharing personal experiences. Your story might help others feel less alone or offer insight they hadn’t considered. Just remember that what works for one person may not work for another.
Shirtless or "swimsuit" photos need to be tagged NSFW
The moderators have implemented an automatic NSFW tag for any media post on this sub. This is intended to protect our members from unwanted exposure.
If the image is safe for work -- i.e. is not a shirtless, swimsuit, or otherwise depicts a stage of undress -- then feel free to remove the NSFW tag.
No spam, self-promotion, or marketing / client acquisition; limited user-generated videos/articles
fitness40plus is a fitness community and neither a marketplace nor a billboard.
We will allow active subreddit members to share self-created educational fitness content if it contributes to the discussion and doesn’t focus solely on personal promotion.
Excessive self-promotion, low-effort content or content deemed to focus primarily on marketing, including market research, will be removed.
If it sounds like an ad, it is an ad to the mods.
No research or surveys allowed
Research, surveys, data collection, or any attempt to study subreddit members is not allowed, regardless of intent or format. This rule exists to protect user privacy, prevent data harvesting, and keep the community focused on genuine discussion rather than becoming a pool for academic, commercial, or influencer-driven research.
No bots or novelty accounts
Your bot is stupid. Your joke account is not funny. They will be banned.
Don't link to us in "circlejerk" subreddits
r/fitnesscirclejerk doesn't want us to link to them and we respect it by returning the favour. We aim for a civil discussion here, if something bothers you, report or disengage.
Moderators have the final word
Moderation on this sub is not a democracy or a court of law. The final decision of what to take action on always rests with the moderation team
