r/developers Subreddit Rules

1

Be respectful and professional

Treat everyone like a colleague on your team. No harassment, personal attacks, name-calling, discrimination, or bad-faith arguments. Go after the code or the idea, never the person.

2

Stay on topic

Content must be about software development, engineering and the developer profession. General tech support, consumer hardware questions, off-topic rants and unrelated content will be removed.

3

No spam or engagement farming

No bots, repetitive or duplicate posting, karma or engagement farming, or flooding the sub with similar content. One post per topic. Accounts that exist mainly to spam are banned without warning.

4

No self-promotion

r/developers is not a place to advertise. Do not promote your own product, app, startup, blog, course, video channel, newsletter, or services, including "soft" promotion dressed up as a question, showcase, or success story.

5

No external links

Posts must be text, and links to sites outside Reddit are not allowed in posts or comments. Share your code, errors, and context directly instead of linking out.

6

No solicitation or "DM me"

Do not ask others to DM or PM you and do not tell people to "DM me" for help, code, work or anything else. Keep discussion in the open where the whole community benefits.

7

Put in effort, and use a clear title

Low-effort posts will be removed: no one-line questions with no context, no "do my homework," no vague "how do I code this," and no title-only posts. Show what you have tried, include the specifics, and use a clear, descriptive title.

8

Search first, and use the megathreads

Check whether your question has already been answered before posting. Common, repeated, or beginner questions, and anything that belongs in a pinned megathread (help, careers, etc.), will be redirected there.

9

No job, hiring, or "for hire" posts

No job listings, recruiting, "who's hiring," or "looking for work" posts. General career discussion is welcome; classified-style job and recruitment posts are not.

10

No surveys, research, or data collection without approval

Surveys, user studies, "try my tool for my thesis," and similar data-collection requests require prior mod approval. Posted without it, they will be removed.

11

No AI-generated content passed off as your own

This sub is for real human discussion and experience. Do not post AI-generated articles, answers, or code dumps as if they were your own work.

12

No illegal content, and follow Reddit's rules

No piracy, cracked software, license bypasses, or anything illegal. All activity must follow Reddit's Content Policy. Ban evasion, vote manipulation, and doxxing lead to an immediate ban and a report to the admins.
