r/beer Subreddit Rules

1

No pictures/memes/beer porn

No pictures/memes/beer porn. This rule includes videos that are substantively equivalent to a still image. If you wish to post images or very short videos, we encourage you to do so at /r/beerporn.

In certain situations (higher effort posts), exceptions will be made for pictures that are accompanied by meaningful captions. If you believe your post should be allowed as an exception to this rule, send the mods a message and we will consider it.

2

No hate speech

We have a zero tolerance policy for any sort of hate speech or personal attacks.

3

Direct link to private sales of beer or merchandise

No direct links to bottle openers, beer T-shirts, neon beer signs, kegerators, etc. This rule covers advertisements and spam. If you want to post a picture of some merchandise, consider r/breweriana.

4

No surveys

No posts asking for survey responses without explicit mod approval. Send a message to modmail if you want approval and have a good reason.

5

Low effort/Blog spam/Repost - mods, please review!

Direct links to articles, reviews and release information will be reviewed for content. We want to encourage substantive, thoughtful articles that promote conversation on /r/beer and discourage lower effort posts, like copied and pasted press releases and short, uninteresting reviews.

6

Post about Yuengling

dae Yuengling?

Violation reason: yinzlinz
7

Repost -- post is already on front page

8

No crowdfunding campaigns

No posts promoting crowdfunding campaigns.

9

Mod Discretion

The enforcement of the rules, post removals, bans and all other mod actions are subject to mod discretion. Above all else, we aim to make /r/beer a welcoming and interesting subreddit and facilitate quality beer discussion. We will take action as we feel it benefits the r/beer community.

10

No promo codes

No promo code posts. If you think your post should be excused from this rule for some reason, please send a message to modmail. Personal Tavour promo code posts will not be allowed, though.

11

No drinking game posts

As for all rules, exception requests via modmail will be considered and may be approved with a compelling reason. However, this subreddit is for discussing beer, not just getting drunk.

12

Banned Post Type

Specific banned post that keep popping up:

  • Beer consumption infographic videos
  • Direct links to youtube profiles (if you don't want to link to a specific video, use a self post, describe the profile and put the link in there)
  • "Beer money" requests
  • Please avoid direct links to stores when possible
  • How many beers do you drink per day and similar polls
13

Medical Questions

Medical questions will be limited. /r/Beer is the wrong forum for serious medical questions, particularly where there's potential for harm to come as a result of the discussion. Please consult a medical professional for any questions about your own health, not an online beer discussion board.

This isn't a hard rule. We will allow more general questions about health and topics that seem safe, but we may err on the side of caution since it is a serious topic.

Violation reason: Disallowed medical question

Read the FAQ/Old Beer is Safe to Drink

Is this beer safe to drink? Has it gone bad from age or storage conditions?

Generally speaking, beer does not go bad in a way that will make it dangerous to drink. This assumes that the beer is stored in a sealed container. It may taste bad, though.

If the beer is opened or the seal is compromised, it is better to toss it. If you decide to OPEN the old beer, you are encouraged to make a post about it.

Violation reason: Didn't read the FAQ, and old beer is safe to drink
15

Post about Busch Light Apple

take it to your fraternity (this thread: Busch Light Apple Support/Hate Thread)

Violation reason: Southeastern Conference related content (bad)
