This subreddit is open for civil, friendly discussion about our common interest, aviation. Excessively rude, mean, unfriendly, or hostile conduct is not permitted. Racism or any form of hate will not be tolerated and will result in a ban.

Keep Content On Topic

We accept almost anything related to aircraft, airplanes, aviation and flying. Helicopters, rotorcraft, airships, balloons, paragliders, winged suits and anything that sustains you in the air is acceptable to post here.

Contribute to the Discussion

If you post in this subreddit, you are expected to engage in the discussion. Do not post images, links, or videos just to karma farm or drive engagement. Questions with simple or easily-googled answers are not allowed.

Rules for News

All news posted to r/aviation should include a primary source. Please use the article's headline as the post's title, rather than your own interpretation of the content. Articles should be easily accessible and not behind a paywall. Any false or misleading information in the post or article may result in removal.

No Politics or Religion

This sub is about aviation and the discussion of aviation, not politics or religion. We do not allow political adjacent discussion, antagonistic political discussion, or discussion of political figures. Anything that violates this rule will be removed. Repeat offenses may result in a ban.

Discussions around regulations, changes in laws, opinions on those changes, and general discourse on the rules and regulations that may affect aviation are allowed and should be actively discussed.

No Clickbait, Blogspam, or Self-Promotion

Any post or comment that is advertising any product, service, poll, or similar activities will be removed. We do not grant exceptions, and this rule will be applied at the moderators’ discretion. Anything that is posted in order to drive engagement to any kind of video, social media page, blog, or website will be removed.

Rules for Media

All media must be either original content or correctly attributed to the proper source and should be actual photographs or videos in line with our mission statement. Content may be removed at the moderators’ discretion, including:

• Low quality content where the main subject is not easily discernible
• FlightRadar24 (or similar) screenshots
• Flight simulator posts
• Memes, troll posts, or image macros
• Models or figures
• Drawings or CGI
• Altered, fake, or photshopped images
• AI content

No Gore / Limited NSFW Content

We do not allow posts or comments that include gore or links to gore. NSFW content may be removed at moderators discretion.

NSFW content that is not flagged as such will result in a permanent ban.

Seatbelts Fastened

The moderators may turn on the seatbelt sign for any post that becomes popular or controversial. Once illuminated, commenting will be limited to frequent posters on r/aviation. These posts will be heavily moderated and r/aviation’s rules may be applied more stringently, including comment removal reasons or temporary bans. The goal is to promote more civil discussion and reduce violations of Reddit’s site-wide rules.
