Harrasment

Harassment of individuals are not tolerated. This includes criticism of one's beliefs using vulgarity, or the use of their ethnicity as a rhetorical weapon. Arguments are not restricted, be civil.

No Hate Speech or Identity-Based Discrimination

Content that demeans, dehumanises, or promotes hatred toward people based on ethnicity (including Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, or any other community), religion, caste, gender, or nationality is strictly prohibited and will be removed immediately. Repeat offenders will be permanently banned. This subreddit is a space for all Sri Lankans and those connected to the island. No exceptions.

No Sexual Harassment or Unwanted Approaches

Unsolicited sexual comments, creepy or inappropriate DMs, and targeting members for dating or sexual purposes are prohibited. This includes posts of the "I am looking for a girl/guy" variety. Severity determines the response; not every incident requires a ban, but patterns of behaviour and serious violations will be dealt with firmly. If someone is harassing you in DMs, report it to the mod team.

Language and Translation Policy

Posts in Sinhala or Tamil are welcome and encouraged. Please be sure to compare the context of your post with the inbuilt translation tool that is available on the platform.

If the context of the post deviates from the intended as a result of using the inbuilt translation tool the post will be subjected to removal.

No Targeting or Brigading Other Subreddits

We understand the frustration some members feel toward other Sri Lankan communities online. That said, this subreddit explicitly condemns any organized harassment, brigading, or hate-mongering directed at other subreddits or their members. This is a Reddit-wide rule (see Reddit's Moderator Code of Conduct, Rule 3) and violating it puts the entire community at risk of suspension. No Spam

Repeated low-effort comments (more than 5 of the same or similar comment) and spam posts will be removed immediately. Accounts found spamming will be permanently banned.

No Unsolicited Promotions or Advertisements

Promoting a product, business, or social media page without prior mod approval is prohibited and may result in a temporary ban. This does not include genuine personal recommendations made in the context of answering someone's question.

No Scams or Misleading Content & Promotions

Posts or comments that promote, facilitate, or encourage scams, fraud, or any similar misdeeds will be removed and the account permanently banned. If you suspect a scam, report it and message the mods.

Posts containing promotional content shouldn't involve "Direct Messaging", explicitly or implicitly mentioned in post or comments.

Financial and Legal Advisory

This subreddit holds no responsibility for financial, legal, or medical repercussions occurred based on advice given by users on this subreddit. Please exercise your own judgment.

Political Discourse

Political discussion, including criticism of the government, parties, and public figures, is permitted. What is not permitted is using political posts as a vehicle for ethnic or religious hatred, personal attacks, or misinformation. Debate the idea, not the person.

No Spreading Misinformation

if a claim is stated as fact and challenged, the poster must produce a source that actually supports the specific claim (not a tangentially related article) within the thread, or the comment is removed as misinformation. Repeated failure to substantiate factual claims when challenged escalates under Rule 12 the same as any other repeat violation.

NSFW Content

Pornographic or graphically violent content is prohibited. Content that is mildly mature must be tagged NSFW. Failure to tag appropriately may result in post removal.

images of recognisable adult actors posted in a promiscuous context will also lead to reprimands.

Bans

Bans are not handed out lightly. Most violations will result in a warning or a temporary ban first, scaled to the severity of the offence. Serious or repeated violations may result in a ban of up to one year. Permanent bans are reserved for repeat offenders who show no sign of changing, or for individuals who join in clear bad faith. Any ban of significant length requires agreement from at least two moderators. If you believe you have been banned unfairly, you may appeal via modmail.
