Welcome! Please Read the FAQs
Our general info FAQ may answer many of your questions, please scan through it first before posting. Common questions about working in Antarctica are answered in the Employment FAQ. Common questions about tourism are answered in the Tourism FAQ.
Be Cool
Keep it friendly. Do not call people names or troll for personal reactions. If you disagree with someone, attack the argument, not the person.
Stay On-Topic
Please ensure all posts concern Antarctica (the continent and those whom inhabit it) in some way.
Limit Reposts
Reposts are allowed so long as there has been a lot of time since the last time it was posted (like, a year or more).
Frequent low-effort reposts, such as Dr Leonid Rogozov Removing His Own Appendix and NASA's Antarctica from Space image may be removed regardless.
No Promotions or Advertising
Links to pay-walled articles, advertising, app downloads, and for-profit videos or blogs are not allowed, nor are promotional materials and links with the intent to sell items. Some exceptions may be made for charity or non-profit organizations but please get mod approval first before posting.
This also includes survey spam. We may make exceptions for surveys for academic research, but contact the mods first. Because of a recent influx, surveys for class projects will typically not be allowed.
No Conspiracies, Aliens, or Paranormal Posts
Paranormal, UFO, and conspiracy theories are not welcome here. This includes click-bait titles implying any of the above, even if the actual text doesn't break the rule. Drive-by conspiracy posting will result in a perma-ban.
Explicitly not allowed: Posts about UFOs, pyramids, Nazi bases, faces in Google Earth images, aliens and Kohnen Station, flat earth theories, blatant misinformation, and dopey YouTube Antarctic mystery videos.
Respect Privacy
This sub respects your privacy and anonymity, and we ask that you return the favor. Please do not publish the names or contact information of other users or Antarctic program participants without their permission. This rule does not apply to people who are already in the public eye, such as authors, politicians, historical figures and media personalities. Doxxing is always prohibited, no matter who it is.
No Pseudoscience
If your post makes a scientific claim about Antarctica or the environment, it should be backed up by data and peer-reviewed scientific research. Cite your sources. Blogs don't count.
No NSFW
It's a sub that's safe for everyone so keep is clean. NSFW posts will put you on ice, and not in a good way.
AI, Fictional, and Non-Original Content
Posts, comments, and link content that are fictional or created by generative AI (even partially) must be clearly labeled as such. Posts that contain content that is not your own, especially photos and artwork, must credit the original artist. If you don't know who that was, say so, but don't claim it as your own or imply that it is your work.
