Submissions must be screenshots/archives.

This obviously does not apply to articles, videos, and pictures - it is intended primarily for social media posts and public comments. When posting a screenshot, please include the context (i.e. preceding comments) if relevant.

Don't post shit you were involved in.

Don’t post screenshots of conversations you have participated in. Likewise, don't bait or troll for content in other subs. This includes comments on the same thread if it's below 300 comments, and the same chain if the thread is larger. This rule applies to participation, simply deleting or excluding your comments from the screenshot does not solve the problem. See FAQ for more detail..

Submission titles must be a direct quote

Use a direct quote as your title. If the quote doesn't make sense alone, you may include neutral, non-editorialized context in the title itself. When posts do not contain text, titles must be a factual and neutral description of the content. NEVER include your opinion or bias in the title - including Spongebob font. Articles must be titled with either the headline or a direct quote from it. FAQ - Rule 4

Do not page users of other subreddits

If you type the full name of a user preceded by '/u/' it sends a PM to that user of your comment, hence informing them of users talking about them. Do not directly link (and hence page) the usernames of the users featured here. You can only ping moderators.

Make sure the comment was by an American

Do not assume someone is American just because they said something silly or they messed up geography - make sure they're actually American before posting. You can check by scanning their post history or profile information.

For the purpose of this sub, an American refers to someone from the United States. This does NOT include Canada, Mexico or Greenland.

FAQ - Rule 6

No low-hanging fruit

a) Some topics (e.g. Trump, Musk, TPUSA/Charlie Kirk and WW2 nuclear bombing of Japan) and sources from certain subreddits (e.g. Conservative, unpopularopinion, and certain far-right subreddits) are only allowed in the stickied Weekly thread. These restricted topics and sources are not final.

b) No trolls. This can be determined by post history and karma (brand new account; low karma) or it could be a known troll as mentioned in the link above.

No text posts or AI slop

Only screenshots/images/videos of Americans saying funny shit is allowed - if you want to tell a tale or post someone else's tale, you can do so in the stickied Weekly thread which gets renewed every Friday.

This includes something said by someone other than the original poster/commenter being retold in the third person, as well as all forms of AI-generated content (text, images, videos).

Posts must be uniquely American

The easiest way of testing this is to ask yourself whether it's likely someone who isn't American would have said it. Someone being religious or messing up geography is not uniquely American by a long shot, nor are racism or capitalism. What makes something uniquely American is if it's highly unlikely if not impossible to encounter outside the US or from non-Americans.

Posts must be lighthearted

No depressing posts or things that aren't worth posting (eg something an American said that is perfectly reasonable in context). Yes, there are some topics covered that are more ironic than funny, but certain things just aren't lighthearted like shootings, sexual assault, any event where people are genuinely hurt, racists being racist, etc.

No gun-related posts

Gun-related posts do not fit the lighthearted nature of the sub. Such posts are usually a better fit for one of our sister subs such as /r/GunsAreCool, /r/ABoringDystopia and /r/ANormalDayInAmerica.

Don't be toxic

We will always be a satire subreddit. Toxicity such as hate speech and anti-American attitudes will get your comment removed and possibly get you banned. Please report toxic comments and users. FAQ - bans

No more than 5 posts every 24 hours.

To combat low-effort karma farming, we only allows users a maximum of 5 posts within a 24-hour period. Excess posts will be automatically removed, and you will be informed when you will be allowed to post again. Note that moderators reserve the right to make adjustments to this rule as they see fit.

No posts related to recent or ongoing tragedies

Recent/ongoing tragedies include events where one or more people are killed or seriously injured. As of March 2026, this includes the U.S.-Israeli military strikes against Iran and the ongoing Middle East conflict.

No reposts of content posted within the past year with over 1000 upvotes or from the Top 50 all-time posts.
