No harassment, hate, or inciting or justifying violence

Users cannot target any person or group based on race, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, etc. Users also cannot incite or justify violence, or harass other users (for instance, by following users to other subreddits to reply). The mods generally do not provide warnings under this Rule before banning the user because it's a sitewide Reddit rule. For more information, see reddit's Content Policy.

No spam

No posting or commenting repeatedly over a very short period of time without a meaningful reason. Memes are welcome, but spam is not. See also reddit's sitewide spam policy, which prohibits content such as link farming, solicitation, etc.

No posts advertising test-taking or tutoring for money are allowed.

Ban evasion will be reported to reddit's admins

Users who have been banned and bypass the ban by creating another account will be reported to reddit's admins for a device-wide and sitewide ban. We respectfully ask that users separately send us a modmail if they believe ban evasion took place, and include the username of the banned account.

Posts must be on-topic

While this subreddit is open to all students, faculty, staff, alumni, prospective students, and interested members of the public generally, all posts must somehow pertain to SBU, SUNY, or the local area in and around Stony Brook. This rule does not apply to comments, although mods may use discretion if comments become spammy or inappropriately irrelevant.

No dating/hookup posts. There are apps for that.

Rules are non-exhaustive

This is not a First Amendment-protected forum. This subreddit is not formally associated with SBU/SUNY. The mod team has discretion to warn or ban any user and/or remove content, such as when plainly made in bad faith to disrupt conversation or invite trolling. In addition, the mods strictly enforce reddit's Content Policy. If a sitewide rule is not covered by these Rules or added/modified by reddit, mods will defer to the Content Policy.

Housing Postings

Housing postings must include photo, rough location, price and must be in English (can be in another language only in ADDITION to English).
