r/Purdue Subreddit Rules
Don't post personal information
Think doxxing. Don't post anyone's personal information without their consent. More Information and basis for this rule
No one-sided advertising
Don't advertise things unless you believe that:
- It applies specifically to the Purdue community more than others.
- It is something the Purdue community would want to know about.
- It is not a direct solicitation to buy a product. (Think inform, rather than *solicit*)
Lease listings, personal sales, and dating applications will also be removed under this criteria.
This is a subjective criteria and final judgement on what qualifies rests with the moderators.
Repetitive questions that can easily be answered using a search
Please - there is a search bar. Use it. We are tired of seeing the same exact questions being asked over and over again. No, you will likely not get rescinded, and so on....
Don't ask about admissions chances.
See here instead. Additionally, refrain from "Help Me Decide" posts. As a general rule: your enrollment decision will boil down to cost and personal preference, as schools similar in reputation to Purdue will have comparable employment, research, and extracurricular opportunities.
No "Which school should I go to" questions
We get it, the college admissions process is hard and scary. However, asking "I got into Purdue and [insert] school, which one should I go to" gets repetitive REALLY fast. This is a subreddit for people who go to Purdue, not spillover from r/ApplyingtoCollege. Ask in the megathread or use the search bar. Thank you!
Don't be a dick
Do not troll, incite conflict, make malicious personal attacks, vandalize (either on the subreddit or vandalizing elsewhere (including other places on the internet) and posting it here) be sexist, be racist, or be otherwise discriminatory towards your fellow users. This is a subjective criteria and final judgement on what qualifies rests with the moderators.
Don't defame or harass Purdue employees.
Do not defame Purdue employees. This means you cannot make deliberately false statements about Purdue employees' professional conduct or actions, you cannot discuss personal details of Purdue employees' lives outside the scope of this subreddit, you cannot harass or encourage harassment of Purdue employees, and you cannot impersonate any Purdue employee.
The exception to this rule is if someone's personal actions impact their role at Purdue, then you may share (but still not harass).
Unlabeled Misinformation & Parody
Memes or parody containing misinformation that could easily be interpreted as real should be clearly marked as such. Misinformation that isn't clearly a joke will be removed at moderator discretion - unless it's really really obvious and funny.
Keep posts vaguely related to Purdue.
Posts should generally be related to Purdue, but this is not a strict requirement. Local news stories, requests about local attractions/services, and even memes are acceptable in moderation. Posts relating to Purdue Global, however, belong on r/PurdueGlobal, and will be removed.
This is a subjective criteria and final judgement on what qualifies rests with the moderators.
No extremely NSFW images
Don't post nude photos or extreme gore. Stuff that is gross are not safe for viewing at work should be labeled as NSFW before you click "post".
Poll Rules
NO polls for exam scores, NO polls for class surveys. Please include a “results” option to protect your data. More rules will be added as needed.
Verification Abuse
Verified Accounts are official University or Student Org. accounts that are trusted to provide accurate and authoritative information. They have a gold flair with a green check emoji.
Verified accounts are exempt from automod filters, so users should report abuse of this privilege.
No Copypasta Spam
While these copypastas posted on multiple college subreddits can be funny, they are hurting engagement on posts from actual Purdue students. This is subjective and left up to the moderators.
