Operational Security
Being in a uniformed group comes with access to information that is not publicly available. Be responsible with what you say online. The Official Secrets Act criminalises the unauthorized disclosure of classified information. If the information is not publicly available, it would be better not to share it, or use vague terms to give a general idea, removing specifics (e.g. names of units, task forces and exercises, or descriptions of what the unit/coy does, especially for operational units).
Be Nice
Before posting something, think if it is something you would say to someone to their face. If you do not have anything useful to say, then don't say it. Light-hearted jokes are fine, but don't troll people, especially when one has genuine questions about their future time in uniform. Our two years are stressful enough, don't add to it.
This includes racism, sexism, doxing, harassment, or any other form of behaviour that may make a party uncomfortable.
Don't Spread Misinformation
Make an effort to research/fact-check your information before sharing anything (eg articles). Hedge your statements if they are personal opinions (eg "I think that ..."). Common sense is a valuable tool, use it to your advantage.
Advertisements, fundraisers, surveys
Small tools or apps relevant to NS are allowed, but advertisements, fundraisers, surveys, etc have to be verified or approved by a moderator before being posted.
Redditquette
Please follow Reddiquette as far as possible.
Megathreads
We have weekly threads for smaller questions which can be answered easily, monthly threads for enlistment-related questions and quarterly threads relating to posting orders. This helps us to reduce clutter in the subreddit.
Opinions, Facts, and Discussion
One's experience in NS would undoubtedly differ from another person's experience, so do take the opinions and anecdotes of users with a pinch of salt and apply common sense as necessary. Apply advice from people as appropriate, not blindly following it as though it is the gospel.
Medical questions (eg "Will I downpes due to xxx?") are often difficult to answer, as only your Medical Officer has the knowledge to appropriately give a response.
Malingering
Malingering refers to pretending to have a medical condition, or purposefully exaggerating a medical condition, with the intention of getting a medical status, medical certificate, a lower PES status or to avoid duty or work. People who ask for information, share information or otherwise encourage malingering will be dealt with. This includes questions like “How do I get PES F”, “How do I get excuse XXX”, “How can I escape XXX”
Punishment and Mod Discretion
People who intentionally and repeatedly try to get around the automoderator (eg attempting to post about enlistment related matters multiple times, changing the text slightly so that automoderator does not detect it), and people who break any of the above rules are subject to warns, mutes, bans or even permabans.
Even if a post does not directly contravene any of the above guidelines, a moderator has the discretion to mete punishment as necessary.
