Be respectful to each other
Itâs the internet and weâre talking about subjectively beautiful rocks, disagreements are natural. However, you can do so without being insulting or condescending. No insults, taunts, name-calling, or harrassment.
Gemstones only & no metaphysical crystal talk
For rocks and non-gemmy specimens, go to r/MineralPorn, r/Minerals, or r/whatisthisrock. For spiritual & magical go to r/crystals
Questions, valuation, and gem identification posts should include good information and photos
If you want the communityâs help, put in some effort. Do some of your own research & Include as much information and good photos as you can.
Photos should be nice to look at & titles should include the type of gemstone (if known)
Gems should be easy to see and enjoy. No blurry, badly lit, low resolution, off center photos.
Post titles, images, and videos should not seem like advertisements or sales posts
Avoid sales language (âperfect engagement ring stone!â, "lab certified") and watermarks/logos should be subtle.
Gem professionals may only post not for sale/unavailable items
No more than 1 post per day. If not obvious a gemstone is not for sale, your post will be removed. It can be marked not for sale in photo/video captions.
Approved vendors may post occasional sales items (Rule #7), but otherwise may only post not for sale items.
Approved vendors can post available gemstones, but must follow the rules for sales posts
Only one sales post every 3 days. Can only offer single stones or pairs. Titles should not read as sales posts. Must include payment/return policies. All other posts should follow rule #6.
Gem professionals & vendors can ONLY recommend themselves as replies to posts looking for a gem
Sellers should not do this unsolicited. You may only do this if you can relevantly help the person looking. Donât offer opals to someone looking for a sapphire.
Donât spam/stalk r/gemstones members outside the subreddit
If gem sellers are spamming you outside the subreddit, message the moderators. While we canât stop them, weâll ban them from participating on r/gemstones
No asking how, where, nor how much to sell gemstones
Search elsewhere on the internet.
No critiques of people's hands/appearance
We're here for shiny fun stuff. There is no reason you should be commenting negatively on people's hands.
