r/Gemstones Subreddit Rules

1

Be respectful to each other

It’s the internet and we’re talking about subjectively beautiful rocks, disagreements are natural. However, you can do so without being insulting or condescending. No insults, taunts, name-calling, or harrassment.

Violation reason: This person is not being civil.
2

Gemstones only & no metaphysical crystal talk

For rocks and non-gemmy specimens, go to r/MineralPorn, r/Minerals, or r/whatisthisrock. For spiritual & magical go to r/crystals

Violation reason: This is not a gemstone or is about crystal metaphysics & magic
3

Questions, valuation, and gem identification posts should include good information and photos

If you want the community’s help, put in some effort. Do some of your own research & Include as much information and good photos as you can.

Violation reason: Low quality question/request post (poor photos/information, didn't do any research)
4

Photos should be nice to look at & titles should include the type of gemstone (if known)

Gems should be easy to see and enjoy. No blurry, badly lit, low resolution, off center photos.

Violation reason: Photos are not high quality.
5

Post titles, images, and videos should not seem like advertisements or sales posts

Avoid sales language (“perfect engagement ring stone!”, "lab certified") and watermarks/logos should be subtle.

Violation reason: Post title/images/videos seem like blatant advertising/sales.
6

Gem professionals may only post not for sale/unavailable items

No more than 1 post per day. If not obvious a gemstone is not for sale, your post will be removed. It can be marked not for sale in photo/video captions.

Approved vendors may post occasional sales items (Rule #7), but otherwise may only post not for sale items.

Violation reason: Breaking the rules for gem professionals (1 post per day, must be explicitly not-for-sale items).
7

Approved vendors can post available gemstones, but must follow the rules for sales posts

Only one sales post every 3 days. Can only offer single stones or pairs. Titles should not read as sales posts. Must include payment/return policies. All other posts should follow rule #6.

Violation reason: Breaking the rules for approved vendors (1 post every 3 days, only singles or pairs, has sales info)
8

Gem professionals & vendors can ONLY recommend themselves as replies to posts looking for a gem

Sellers should not do this unsolicited. You may only do this if you can relevantly help the person looking. Don’t offer opals to someone looking for a sapphire.

Violation reason: Vendor is soliciting when someone didn't ask, or their business is irrelevant.
9

Don’t spam/stalk r/gemstones members outside the subreddit

If gem sellers are spamming you outside the subreddit, message the moderators. While we can’t stop them, we’ll ban them from participating on r/gemstones

10

No asking how, where, nor how much to sell gemstones

Search elsewhere on the internet.

Violation reason: Person is asking how to sell gemstones.
11

No critiques of people's hands/appearance

We're here for shiny fun stuff. There is no reason you should be commenting negatively on people's hands.

Violation reason: Critiquing/commenting on someone's appearance.
