r/Firefighting Subreddit Rules

1

Questions regarding the employment/should I/can I/how to process in the Weekly Question Thread

All questions regarding ANY part of the hiring/volunteer/can I/how to/should I become a firefighter process may only be posted in the WEQT. This includes current job openings. Questions posted to the main sub will be deleted, multiple submissions will be regarded as spam and will result in a ban.

Users should direct questions to the Weekly Employment Question Thread

Violation reason: Rule 1- All employment questions must be directed to the WEQT
2

Keep Posts/Comments Civil

This includes excessive ridicule, talking down about other agencies/departments, trolling, or posting toxic content that adds nothing of value to the sub.

(Hit'n It Hard From the Yard) HIHFTY-type content and comments, such as what's found in subreddits like r/LookImAFirefighter or /FirstResponderCringe, are considered violations of this rule and may result in a ban. Moderators may use their descretion to determine whether content fits this rule.

3

Posts Should Be Firefighting Related

Keep your posts on-topic and directly related to firefighting. Videos of people randomly or deliberately starting things on fire are not necessarily firefighting-related just because they involve fire. Mods may use their discretion to remove posts they consider off-topic.

Violation reason: Post Should Be Firefighting Related
4

Do Not Post Any Personal Information

This includes names, address, badge numbers, and your department (unless you have been granted permission by your department head). Additionally, do not post any graphics or information that would violate US or your respective country's patient privacy laws.

5

Advertising/Spamming/Solicitation/Fundraisers/Surveys are not allowed

Repeated promotion of a site/channel/blog, yours or otherwise, is regarded as spam and will result in a permanent ban.

NEW USERS: To prevent being mistaken as spam, actively contribute towards a discussion and reasonably space out submissions from the same source.

*Only LODD fundraisers are allowed. Message the mods prior to posting.

The sale of goods is also not tolerated. Giveaways are at mod's discretion.

**Surveys not coordinated with mods prior to posting will be removed.

Violation reason: Violates Advertising/Spamming/Solicitation/Fundraisers/Survey Rule
6

Research Before Asking Questions

Please utilize the search feature to find answers to your question before posting. If your question has been asked many times before, appears overly vague, it will be removed. If your question is about something like "gifts", "multitools", "radio straps", "tools in your pocket", "what side job do you have", "what's the best way to do X"... chances are it has been posted about A LOT. If you don't have a very original take, your post will be removed.

7

Moderators have the final say

Any mod action and exceptions to the rules above are ultimately at their discretion.

8

Post Quality / No Low Effort Posts

Titles or submissions which are vague and/or "low effort" will be removed. This includes "can someone contact me, I have a question" posts, posts where the title is excessively vague or meaningless, and posts where the context cannot be determined without following a link or viewing a video. AI-generated content may also be removed. This is not an all-inclusive list and moderators may at their discretion, remove other posts or submissions they deem to be "low effort".

9

Rules on Politics, Policy, and Conspiracy (posts and comments).

Posts involving policy or politics must be directly related to firefighting, framed in a factual, neutral manner, and focus on policy and not personalities. Comments must be directly related to the topic/policy being discussed. Comments that are little more than insults or raging will be removed. Moderators may use their discretion in enforcing this rule. "Conspiracy" content is also not permitted.

Violation reason: Violates rules on politics, Policy, and Conspiracy posts/comments (read the rule before reporting).
10

Questions, concerns, or complaints about removed content

If you have questions or concerns regarding the removal of your submission, comment, post, etc. please contact the mod team using the action menu in the Reddit mobile app, or using the "Message the Mods" button from the web-browser version on the subreddit sidebar. Posts regarding subreddit moderation are considered "meta" posts and are allowed, provided they are written respectfully. Posts or comments only intended to complain or incite subreddit drama are not appropriate and will be removed.

Violation reason: Involves questions, concerns, or complaints about removed content, or incites subreddit drama.
