Be Kind
We are all humans
Be curious
We expect submitters to be interested in a factual and competent answer. If you came here to lead a debate in order to support your pre-existing world-view, this is the wrong place.
No Homework-Tutoring
Homework questions are something that AskBiology feels their experts should not be answering but instead should be answered by the person assigned the homework. While this is not always clear cut and is sometime up for personal interpretation, please report anything you believe to be homework.
That being said, we are happy to help with follow-up questions inspired by homework you were working on.
Do not request medical advice
This sub cannot provide medical advice. Please seek advice from your doctor or medical care provider(s).
Meme, joke, or just link
Memes, jokes, or comments consisting solely of a link are not allowed.
Top-level comment not answering the question
Top level comments (direct replies to a question, not a reply to another user's comment) must be an answer to the question posed, or a follow-up question to the post.
No questions for which you should better consult your doctor
Human medicine questions can be problematic. This sub will not diagnose, consult or in any way give medical advice so you should not ask for this. Quite a few questions on human biology are medical question in disguise, we will moderate those.
There are acceptable medical questions that are OK as human biology questions and will not be removed.
A gray area are human biology questions on the connection of mind and body. We reserve to remove those
Dressing unscientific bullshit as a question
This sub is about asking questions on biology. OF course, there are many unscientific claims about biology out there that people may have questions on, as such these are okay. However, its not acceptable if questions seem to drift to an extreme side of unscientificness. This is a fuzzy rule and will be invoked at moderators' discretion.
Repeatedly asked question not allowed
We regularly see questions being asked again which are so peculiar that its almost unlikely that they haven't been resubmitted by the same human. Moderators can remove posts upon suspicion. This is a fuzzy rule and will be invoked at moderators' discretion.
Attributing meta-physical / new-age aspects to biological processes / systems
Its rather pointless to extrapolate from biological observations and models to a higher meaning.
No Dehumanizing / Discrimatory content
We do not tolerate posts that discriminate or harass individuals or groups based on racist, sexual-, gender or religious identification.
Don't post answers from AI chat bots
2024 is over and everyone who wants to by now has the ability to use some ChatGPT-like software to generate answers from directly. So in this sub we only accept answers written by a human.
While its evident that there is no certain way of inferring whether a given text was written by a chatbot, the mods will apply their best judgement.
